How To Take Apart A Glock 19

Disassembling the Firing Mechanism Housing

1. Remove the backplate

Orient the Glock 19 so that the rear of the frame is facing you. Use your thumbs to push down on the locking tabs on the backplate and simultaneously slide the backplate down and off the frame.

2. Remove the firing pin spring and firing pin

With the backplate removed, you will see the firing pin spring and firing pin. Use your fingers or a small tool to compress the firing pin spring and pull the firing pin forward out of the firing mechanism housing.

3. Remove the firing pin safety

The firing pin safety is located on the right side of the firing mechanism housing behind the firing pin. Use your fingers or a small tool to push down on the firing pin safety lever and slide the firing pin safety forward and off the housing.

4. Remove the trigger mechanism

To remove the trigger mechanism, you will need to first remove the following four components:

Component Removal steps
Trigger housing pin Use a punch to push out the trigger housing pin from the right side of the frame.
Trigger spring Once the trigger housing pin is removed, rotate the trigger and pull it out of the frame. The trigger spring will come out with the trigger.
Connector Locate the connector on the trigger housing and push down on the connector tab. The connector will then slide out of the trigger housing.
Sear Locate the sear on the trigger housing and push down on the sear tab. The sear will then slide out of the trigger housing.

Once you have removed these four components, you can lift the trigger mechanism out of the firing mechanism housing.

Detaching the Locking Block and Trigger Mechanism

Once the slide and barrel have been removed, the next step is to detach the locking block and trigger mechanism. Follow these steps:

1. Depress the Locking Block Pin

Locate the locking block pin on the left side of the frame. It is a small, spring-loaded pin. Depress the pin with a punch or a small screwdriver.

2. Remove the Locking Block

Once the locking block pin is depressed, the locking block can be removed. Grip the locking block with your fingers and pull it straight down and out of the frame.

3. Disassemble the Trigger Mechanism

The trigger mechanism is held in place by a trigger spring that runs through the trigger housing. To disassemble the trigger mechanism, first remove the trigger housing pin by pushing it out with a punch or a small screwdriver. Then remove the trigger housing and lift the trigger mechanism out of the frame.

4. Remove the Firing Pin Safety

The firing pin safety is a small lever located on the left side of the slide. To remove the firing pin safety, first depress the firing pin safety plunger with a punch or a small screwdriver. Once the plunger is depressed, rotate the firing pin safety until it detaches from the slide.

5. Disassemble the Trigger Housing

The trigger housing contains several springs and pins. To disassemble the trigger housing, carefully follow these steps:

  1. Remove the trigger spring by lifting it out of the trigger housing.
  2. Remove the firing pin safety spring by lifting it out of the trigger housing.
  3. Remove the trigger spring retainer plate by lifting it out of the trigger housing.
  4. Remove the firing pin safety plunger spring by lifting it out of the trigger housing.
  5. Remove the firing pin safety plunger by pulling it straight out of the trigger housing.

Disconnecting the Trigger Bar and Slide Stop Lever

After removing the slide and barrel, the next step is to disconnect the trigger bar and slide stop lever. To do this, you will need to rotate the trigger bar loop inward and down to release it from the slide stop lever. Be sure to keep the loop in the down position so that it does not engage with the slide stop lever when you are reassembling the pistol.

Next, you will need to remove the slide stop lever. To do this, push the slide stop lever inward and rotate it upward. This will disengage the slide stop lever from the slide and allow you to remove it.

To summarize the steps:

Step Action
1 Rotate the trigger bar loop inward and down to release it from the slide stop lever.
2 Push the slide stop lever inward and rotate it upward to disengage it from the slide.
